Hi,
Yesterday I broke one USB port, the port's tongue so to speak. See picture below. Since then the notebook stopped without warning a few times. I had to wait for a couple of minutes before restarting it, pretty annoying.
What are my options to get it fixed ?
I am using a HP ProBook with windows 7. I had a Microsoft update snag up my computer, but got that straightened out and was able to get back to the log on page. The computer wants a password, not a fingerprint scan. I click on my name and the screen then continues to click to Other User (which I never set up) and will not accept my name and password. I can hold Escape or F8 and run diagnostics etc. but can go no where else. I have run diagnostics twice, both times PASSED all. I can check my password here and even change it, but the Actual computer still seems confused between My Name and this mysterious Other User. I can find no other mention of this problem and truly hope someone has a suggestion. I have spent hours today and have a deadline to meet and cannot get to my data! Help!!!
Dock Station LE877AA#ABA Observations
* Dock's Power-button turns on laptop: USB mouse LED is lit at power-up but cuts-out when windows boots up.
* Mouse works when plugged directly into laptop (mouse is good and not the issue)
* When docked, ethernet LAN adapter works correctly
* Dock's sound port works correctly with headphones
* Dock's Displayport produces image on HDTV
What can be done to 'activate' the USB ports: is there something that I have missed? Actionablesuggestions or diagnosticquestions are appreciated. Thank you.

Undocked version: does not have 'unknown device' http://s6.postimg.org/u4338ky9t/snap00242.jpg . Now wondering how to find the driver: disc that came with dock does not have drivers...
My HP Envy with 17.5" Screen left corner is opening along with left hinge coming off line. It is also making a fan noise when trying to close it or fully open it. I'm only able to use it while the screen is open 75% of the way. It is obvious that there is a flaw in the design because the weight of the larger screen is to heavy for the case to support opening and closing, resulting in case coming upart and hinge breaking. I contacted HP service center, paid the $230 repair fee and shipped laptop to them with provided box. Service center told me it would be 9 days to repair, which extended to 20 days and now the latest they are saying expected repair date will be 11/20. Nearly 3 months to repair at their service center because "parts are out of stock". I wish someone could help to expedite the repair. I'm also wondering if after it's repaired, will the problem happen again.
I need help FAST my laptop will not turn on and when I try and power it on it won't it will just blink 3 times next to the charger input and will not turn ON

Backspace g and h also did not work for a while until I pushed on the bottom of the laptop with my knee, now they began working. I have removed cleaned and reinstlled keyboard no change. An external keyboard works perfectly.
With the bending of the laptop fixing half the problem I am afraid this is a motherboard issue, how do I confirm?
I switched my machine off hp 255 g2 , when i switchED it on it has a display only on the wireless orange light with a blank screen and when i tried it today it is even worse because the orange light is also gone. what can i do help me please
Ever since I bought this computer back in July 2015, the fan noise and heat at the bottom of the laptop is driving me crazy. Sometimes it will turn on when I'm not even doing anything on the computer -- other times, it will turn on when I have the internet browser (chrome, firefox, ie) with only a few tabs.
The fan is extremely loud and annoying and I expected better for the price I paid and for the model I purchased (i7, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD). Also, after minimal use, I can barely have the laptop on my lap from the bottom heat - unless I'm wearing jeans.
Is anyone else having this issue?
I recently purchased an Elitebook 8730w from ebay (cue the slings and arrows). It has already failed. I really liked it, and would like to try again.
Could someone please give me a quick genealogy of the 17" Elitebook models. I can make some assumptions based on the installed processors, but the numbering system has me a little confused.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

I am naming this problem "Power lock out mode"
The Elitebook 8570w will not power on. There are no lights (front left corner) when the power cord is pluged in. Three times I have been able to get the lights on after disconnected the battery and unplugging the power for 48-72 hours. After the front lights are on the laptop powers up normally.
The motherboard is a quad core. part number 690643-001 (this part number differs from the dual core motherboard)
I have tired to speed up the process by
-reseating the memory
-disconnecting the hard drive
-an alternate battery
-using an alternat power source (both power sources tested ok with another 8570w)
-I have tried holding and power button and pressing it 10 times - used in solving the blinky light, which I do not have.
The problem seems to start when the laptop is not connected to power and is running on battery and the computer is in sleep or hibernate mode. The last time the battery was at 78%. So I don't think it is the battery that is putting in this "power lock out mode". I'm going to load new bios and disable hybernate next time I can get the laptop the boot next.
This is very annoying. Any help in how to get the laptop to power on or reduce the 48-72 power drain would be helpfull. Also, Any thoughts on how to resolve the entry into the "power lock out mode"
my hp 8540 p quick launch button kit has broken...and wifi and sound is not working because it was off on quick launch button...can i turned them on through computer?? or any other way to on them?
I need additional from reading comments on the boards. I understand I have to get a new hard drive. Also read you can purchase hard drive external enclosure and plug in another computer to see if you can pull up files that may not be lost. Does it matter if you plug in to a desktop computer as opposed to another laptop? Also I know once you replace the hard drive your software is gone. I did not back up laptop. Is there a way to get a recovery disk? Will I lose everything that was preloaded when I purchased the laptop like beats audio light scribe, hp wireless assistant, amd graphics, etc. I am hoping I am making myself clear. I know I can replace the hard drive myself. Just wondering if I will be able to pull up any files.

Computer locks up and I have to turn off power and try to start up again. It takes several tries to boot up (sometimes 3 or 4 or a dozen times). Eventually it will boot up. Sometimes I will get this error message during the failed boot up tries: "Boot device not found. Please install an operating system on yor hard disk. Hard disk (3F0). "
I performed a hard reset and then ran a "short" system test that returned the follwing message:
Failure ID: RLHXWF-6AB7QL-QFPK1F-60T03
After that I ran the "long" sysem test with the following result:
Failure ID: RLHXWF-6AB7QL-QFPK1F-61BT03
I tried to search for this error code in HP help and on Google with 0 results.
Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Does anyone know, for sure, if the HP EliteBook 8740W, with Intel I7-820QM quad processor, with 4 active RAM module slots, will support Single Rank module and Dual Rank module architecture ? Can you mix both types in the same machine ? Will either type operate correctly ?
Does anyone technical, have this EliteBook 8740W, and have you tried many combinations of dual channel RAM module combinations ? It doesn't seem to matter what combination, and in what order, I install 2GB and 4GB RAM module pairs. I go to Start button, Computer, Properties, and it still lists 12GB (with 2X2GB and 2X4GB installed in any order). Nothing appears to change, no operations appear any faster than with only 4GB (2X2GB) installed in only two slots. Weird...
Mostly, I want to know if there is any conflict between Single Rank and Dual Rank architecture of the modules, and will either type work, and can they be mixed together and work properly ???

I'm completely out of charge and my laptop doesn't turn on with/without battery while on a.c.
While a.c. is plugged in, if I take out the battery, pushing the power button does not do anything. The power led is dead.
While a.c. is plugged in, and the battery is in as well, pushing the power button causes the power led to blink 3 times and nothing happens after that.
Yes I have read and tried all previous solutions provided here (for other models) since 2012 and none of them worked so far.
Yes I have checked the health of my power cord with other computers already.
Can someone help me please?

The only thing that I didn't try is hardware reset.
I'm keen to find out where the hardware reset pin is. It suppose to be beneath the laptop and should look like a rubber whole (?) or something like that.
Well I couldn't find it and HP support docs are not very helpful about it as well.
If someone have a pavilion laptop (n2xx series) and is kind enough to upload an image that would be very helpful

I'm used to swiping3 fingers left or right in Safari to either go back or forward an internet page. Is there a way to do that with Microsoft instead having to physically go and click the "back" and "forward" arrows? Thanks!
