HP PAVILION HARD DRIVE FAILURE
I have had a Hard Drive failure apropos of nothing. Could not restart (HP Pavilion 15 230 sa ) would not boot and had a clicking sound. The ID is U0C40K-76U7AE-MFPV61-60UQ03 (some of the zeros may be 'o' s , hard to tell). Can I fix this myself?Lap top is 3 months old.

brand new pavillion 17 keyboard not working right (fixed)
Just received a brand new
HPPavilion 17-e153sa running windows 8.1
the keyboard seems to have a mind of it's own. Some keys open up windows some repeat themselves endlessly, in short the thing is faulty. Having searched google sadly I found this a common issue, which is sad for a brand new laptop.
pressing the 4 button makes P repeat endlessly amongst other keyboard faults. No the num lock isn't on etc I repair laptops and this is a hardware issue.
I removed the battery for 3 minutes, it then worked for about 5 minutes before reverting to the fault.
How is this fault fixed, it's brand new and doesn't say much for HP's quality control. I need the laptop for business. Do I have return it to get fixed ?
This was typed using another laptop as the brand new HP is already faulty it seems. If you are reading this and considering an HP, don't. Never before have I had a laptop not function properly when literally just takn out the box, disappointed doesn't come close.

I have seen countless posts regarding this issue, taking out battery, etc. I went into the bios settings, press escape quickly on boot up, go into your bios and scroll along the options. I can't remember the actual top bar setting but you will see the option clearly on the drop down, the option you want is active keys setting, disable it !
So far so good, I am now happy with my laptop and I would suggest HP disables this option in the bios as default. I'd imagine a fair few keyboard issues may be related to this. Hopefully my issues are sorted, if you have the same issues try the above. Specifically if windows start popping up etc.

G7-1338dx CPU Upgrade Questions

Ok so I own a G7-1338dx, comes with a I3 2350m, I have done research and it seems that the board and chipset are compatible with quite a few processors, I was gonna go the route of the I7 2630qm seeing as it is a 4C chip, however the issues that may arise (BIOS underclocking, excess heat) have discouraged me, I currently have decided on the I7 2620m, which matches the TDP of the I3, my question is this, the I3 doesnt have a "turbo frequency" but the I7 has one of 3.4ghz, will the BIOS have the ability to boost the chip from the base 2.7ghz to the max turbo of 3.4? I was reading in the manual for the laptop http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03538328.pdf that this laptop does come with this chip, that doesnt mean though that my BIOS (for the I3) can do the "turbo boosting".....does anyone have any info on this, or any experience.

HP ENVY m6-1225dx Notebook PC

HP 2000-2d19WM Notebook PC Hard Disk Error
My HP 2000 is currently saying that a SMART hard disk check has detected an imminent failure.
Upon running hardware diagnostics I was given a failure ID of: 6CX1VS-70P7AE-MFGJWK-60BA03
My Product ID is: E0M17UA#ABA
I am wondering what my options are. My PC is still under warranty and I would prefer to not lose the data I have on this hard-drive.

HP Pavilion m6 Broken Hinge
There appear to be a number of complaints here about broken hinges associated with HP laptops. My wife's computer just broke (in what appeared to be without cause), which is when I discovered this common problem. The PC is just over two years old, and it's frustrating that such an expensive device isn't covered under warranty. The computer wasn't dropped, mishandled or anything similar that would have caused such damage...
Is HP doing anything to resolve this issue? I'd love to understand because if they aren't willing to repair the device this will undoubtedly be the last time I am purchasing an HP computer...
Any advice from other users on how to fix? It seems far fetched that we need to spend $200 to fix this problem, as the Geek Squad quoted us....

Battery prevents laptop from entering standby
Hello,
The battery of my HP G72-120SD Notebook PC prevents it from entering standby. If the battery is left in the computer, the computer does not go to sleep when closing but keeps running with a black screen. Then the only way to turn it off is to hold down the power button.
The only way to get it to sleep is to remove the battery.
How can I stop the battery from awakening the laptop?
Through the Power Management option in Device Manager it is possible to stop the mouse and keyboard from awakening the computer, but I can't find this option for the battery.
The battery is fairly old, but still has a bit of time left.
Any clue?

Envy 15-j144na - Extremely poor vertical viewing angles?
Hi all, Last week I got a Envy 15-j144na in the UK and I'm quite surprised at the incredible poor vertical viewing angles of the screen.
When I use it on a desk, with the laptop is front of me, the bottom of the screen is washed because of heavy backlight bleed. For example, if I'm reading grey text over a white background, such as comments in source code (1), the text at the bottom looks washed out (and a bit yellowish in my opinion). The colours start to wash out from the middle of the screen, and because the screen cannot be opened more, I cannot think of a easy way to solve this other than return it.
Is this common with these models? After finding this, I saw some similar reviews for the 15t model that is sold in the US (2 and 3). At least on the one I got, there's no way to get consistent colours at any viewing angle, as either to bottom is washed away or the top becomes too dark.

HSTNN-I11X dockingstation not working with 8470p
