RAM upgrade 4MB to 8MB HP G72 notebook b20SA

I'd like to upgrade the RAM from 4MB to 8MB in my HP G72 notebook b20SA. I read mixed information. I'm sure HP's website says the maximum RAM for this notebook is 4MB - which seems small given that I can upgrade the hard disk to 1TB - but I'm sure I've seen suggestions that 8MB is possible.

Webcam not connected / detected

I am having problems with my webcam. It is not detected by any software including youcam. It is also not showing up on device manager. I have followed all instructions online to try and resolve the issue but it is still not showing up. The online advise suggests that a cable may have come undone and the laptop may therefore require repair. Please assist with this.

Touchpad erratic. It does whatever it wants regardless of settings. It has mind of its own!

Mouse pad jumps and moves erractically and often magnifies screen or reduces it to a small size such that neither screen can be read.  Curror jumps all over the place when typing.   Customer Support Techs have attempted to fix - I forgot trouble ticket number - by me allowing them access to my computer but in both instances the two different techs were unable to make a permanent fix.   The mouse pad is still extremely sensitive and cursor  jumps erractically around the screen.  The mouse pad is so useless that a wireless or USB mouse must be plugged in.

In my 50 plus years of computer purchase/use of both Mac and PCs, I would not recommend this model computer to anyone considering a laptop.  Bummer.

HP Envy m6 1105-dx General Hing Problem

Hello,

I have been on many forums from 2014 with many people saying they had similar problems, and HP reached out and solved their issues free of charge when out of warranty. I am creating a new thread, because my HP laptop was purchased in 2013, and I have taken great care of it. A few months ago I realized the left hing was becoming loose, and has broken. This is casuing lots of tension with plastic parts on my screen, and creating it to bend in a way that seems it may eventually snap and harm the monitor. I'm hoping HP can reach back to me as they have for others because this seems to be a common problem with this model. Currently no recall exists, but if so many people have reported this issue in forums as recent as 2014 I hope HP can help! This is my primary computer and as a college student I do not have the means to repair the laptop, which was estimated at over $200.

HP Envy LH hinge about to break

Never used a forum in the past, and I'm not sure I'm in the right place now.  But I have an HP Envy (don't know off hand the screen size), but I've been reading about all the hinge breakage issues, as my LH hinge pushes the bottom LH plastic cover under the hinge down.  I'm concerned that the hinge on this laptop is about to go out.

I bought this laptop December of 2014, warranty ran out December of 2015.  I'm just about to get to the two year old mark.  I've had two HP desktops, and this is the second HP laptop.  I've been glad to stick with HP, but now I need HP's help.  as a lot of other folks have mentioned, the laptops are too expensive to have something like this happen, and it's unreasonable to spend half the cost of the laptop for repairs.

I'd like someone from HP to contact me to discuss this.

What is the best computer to buy that is always upgradable?

My HP 2000-210usa laptop computer is about 5 years old and I recently upgraded the hard drive and the memory, but I gather that the video memory cannot be upgraded. The computer works great, but video is not. I have Windows7 as the operating system and I have no desire to change that to Windows 8 or  10.

why are most computers not built to be continually upgradable?

if there are computers built to be continually upgradable, I would like to find out about them. Are there any out there?

Pavilion 1050el CPU upgrade

I have an HP notebook model Pavilion 1050el.

Now the CPU is an Intel P8400.

I have seen in the Maintenance and service guide that it's possible to replace the CPU up to the Intel T9600 probably because when the guide has been written no better CPU were available.

Now I can see the T9800, T9900 and P9700 are available.

Can you confirm me that these 3 CPU are suitable for the Pavilion 1050el  ?

The serial number is : [personal information removed]

Is APU Upgradeable? (HP Notebook 15z AF100 CTO)

$

Hello all,

I have been researching whether my factory APU is upgradeable or not but cannot seem to locate any definitive answers anywhere both on hp.com as well as Googling 3rd party forums.

Specs:

Model: HP Notebook 15z AF100 CTO

APU: AMD E1-6015 APU with Radeon R2 Graphics 1.35 Ghz

Motherboard: HP 8137 (Socket FT1)

I have searched through the Maintenance and Service Guide: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04653881

and the User's Guide: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04782350 but neither address replacing the CPU let alone any mention of an APU. In the Maintenance Guide (page 50) it does appear to show the processor being removable when replacing the heat sink so this leads be to believe it may not be soldered in. It still remains unclear, however, if the system as a whole is compatible with a faster/stronger APU.

I have tried searching by motherboard and CPU individually on HP's support site but to no avail. This laptop model doesn't seem to be too popular as there are very few 3rd party search results and almost no YouTube videos on it. My warranty just ended so HP won't help without a fee.

Does anyone know if this APU is upgradeable and if so could you please answer the following:

1. Will the BIOS support the APU upgrade?

2. Will the internal cooling systems (heat sink) be able to support a faster APU?

3. Are there any other intrinsic risks with upgrading the APU on this model that may not be designed to support it?

Thank you for your help.

Add Wi-Fi cards to BIOS whitelist

$

Hi all,

I read that Wi-Fi cards are whitelisted because of FCC regulations, so only Wi-Fi cards that are tested to work correctly are added to the whitelist.

HP has relatively low prices because it cuts cost on crappy network cards (which are good enough for most low level users, but not for power users). I want to upgrade to a decent 2.4GHz and 5GHz card with bluetooth support and multiple OS support (Broadcom).

Broadcom cards are not officially supported for some reason (and no, I am not planning on buying an external Wi-Fi card for obvious reasons).

So, my question is as follows: Could HP test some Broadcom cards (hint: they work) and add them to the BIOS whitelist. It would make the lifes of so many customers so much easier and HP would be able to distinguish themselves from other manufacturers.

Please add more Wi-Fi cards to the whitelist.

Kind regards,

kvanzuijlen

Warranty concern

$

Hello.

I plan on buying a HP Pavilion 17-ab004nm laptop with an extended warranty up to 4 years in total. My main concern now is the following:

1.)The laptop uses 8gb of RAM (2x4gb). I would like to replace the two sticks with 2x8gb

2.) The laptop has a 2TB HDD and a 128 gb SSD. I would like it to have at least 256 gb of ssd along with the 2TB HDD. Would it be possible to replace the 128 gb SSD with a 256 or even 512 gb SSD?

The main question here however is the warranty. Are the above mentioned upgrades possible WITHOUT voiding the warranty if I replace them myself?

Any help on the subject would be highly appreciated.

Thank you!
